Our story

Because someday you'll wish you'd asked

We built RecordTheirStory so no family has to learn the hard way that the stories were never written down.

Photographs and letters are precious — but they're silent. They can't hold the sound of a laugh, the way someone pauses before a story they love, or the exact words they'd choose to tell it. Once that voice is gone, no amount of remembering brings it back the same way.

RecordTheirStory is a guided way to capture your parent's life story while there's still time to listen. They answer thoughtful interview questions on camera, at their own pace, from the comfort of the couch. We lightly transcribe and tidy each answer — never changing their voice — and bind it all into an heirloom-quality book. Every page carries a QR code, so any reader can scan it and watch the original moment, for generations to come.

What we promise

Four commitments shape every decision we make.

Their voice is sacred

The whole point is preserving how they said it. Our cleanup is light-touch only, the raw transcript is always kept, and you approve every word. Over-polishing is the one sin we refuse.

The QR code is forever

A printed book outlives subscriptions and servers. The links never 404; lapsed hosting degrades to a gentle "renew" screen, and we never delete your videos automatically.

Zero friction to record

Designed for an 80-year-old on a tablet: big buttons, big text, no passwords, no jargon, and forgiving error states.

Who we are

RecordTheirStory is built and operated by SdV Ventures LLC. We're a small team that cares a great deal about families, memory, and getting the details right. If you have a question, a story, or an idea, we'd genuinely love to hear from you at hello@recordtheirstory.com.

Someday you'll wish you'd asked.

Do it now, while there's still time to listen. Set up a book in minutes and send your parent a simple link.
